About Kyle
Kyle Rucker is a visual artist who uses dance choreography and lighting design as mediums for play and expression. His works center around an interest in music, psychology, and a desire to sculpt experiences through use of the body.
Born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Houston, Texas, Kyle began his artistic life as early as elementary school, dedicated to his first instrument—the Recorder. After over a decade of playing woodwind instruments, most notably the Clarinet, Kyle pursued the visual arts as a Color Guard Director and Performer. He credits the wonderful creatives within the Drum Corps International world for cultivating his capacity collaborative visual art. Kyle had the pleasure of performing with The Madison Scouts, The Santa Clara Vanguard, and The Blue Devils—with whom he won the DCI Championship Title in 2017.

In 2024, Kyle received his BFA in Dance from Sam Houston State University. During his time as a student, Kyle earned opportunities to perform with extraordinary artists like Netta Yerushalmy, Adele Nickel, and Jacob Regan. Thanks to wonderful mentorship and access to equipment, Kyle also acquired skills within the world of stage production. After graduating, he became the Technical Director and Resident Lighting Designer for the SHSU Dance department.
Kyle’s choreographic career began in Color Guard, around 2016, where he generated material for various groups in the Houston and DFW areas. Since 2021, he has been consumed by the world of dance—enthusiastically creating numerous stage works with colleagues and friends alike.
As an artist, Kyle hopes to continue exploring the psychological depths of art, how light effects consumption, the wonders of the naked body, intimacy, the unexplained, and community—to name a few underexplored interests.
